The multiprobe MoistureMeter D® system indicates the hydration levels of cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues via measurement of dielectric properties.
The measurements are performed by the application of a probe to the skin surface. Upon contact, an electric field passes through the stratum corneum and subcutaneous tissues, and the dielectric constant is obtained.
The value of the dielectric constant (in arbitrary units) is directly proportional to the tissue level of hydration.
